This can effectively shatter barriers of language barriers and make communication easier for multilingual setups.

However, despite all these advancements in AI, the technology still cannot easily decipher cultural nuances. Language and culture go hand in hand with each other, so phrases or words may have a meaning that can't be literally translated. For example, idioms carry nuances of language that cannot translate and appear to be literally impossible to understand, though they convey deep meanings. Human translators know the content and culture better. The future prospects for AI in translation look promising, with ongoing work towards machine learning and NLP. As these technologies advance, it is likely that AI will be able to take on more and more complex translations. But human translators are probably not going to be fully replaced; the future will rather be about a hybrid model where AI contributes to efficiency and a large part of the issues of cultural or contextual nuances is represented through human translators who can only provide it.

Therefore, AI changes the game of translation by increasing the efficiency of translation, reducing its cost, and ensuring there is effective real-time communication. Although the above characteristics have remained, human translators remain integral since it will be challenging to provide cultural nuance and complex translations through machines. Going forward, therefore, it is evident that it will be a merge between human expertise and AI to produce more effective translation services.
